Since launching in 2014, the third-generation Toyota Noah has been one of the best-selling minivans for the Japanese automotive giant. So much so that it has spawned 2 other variations since, the Voxy and Esquire. With the line-up of Toyota’s flagship minivan getting bigger, so does the issue of deciding which model is right for you.
In this article, we’ll be diving down to the basics of all the sisters, how they differentiate with one another and hopefully, in the end, you’ll be better prepared to make that purchase decision!

Under the hood, all 3 sisters are powered by the same engine – a 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC engine that produces 98 bhp and 142 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption comes at a whopping 23.8km/l thanks to the hybrid engine and comes standard with 1.8 litres capacity.
Utilizing Toyota’s proprietary e-CVT (Electronic Continuous Variable Transmission) technology, it is a “smart” technology that selects the most optimum (or efficient) gear ratio for that precise moment by analyzing a myriad of driving conditions such as vehicle speed, engine power and road conditions.
Interior
For a 7-seater minivan that costs under $150,000, there is plenty of room. In fact, it is one of the many features that make this line-up so popular. Stepping in is as easy as the door sills sit pretty low which means kids and older folks have an easier time climbing in and out.
Access to the rear row is made easy thanks to the automatic sliding door which can also be controlled in the driver’s seat. If that isn’t enough for you, the middle row seats can be adjusted to slide forwards, backwards and even sideways to make accessing the rear easier. This can be configured to your liking or needs, you can recline the middle seats down and push it forward so that it becomes almost like a flatbed for the kids to rest while on a road trip or simply push it back if there are no passengers in the last row for more legroom. There are multiple combinations you can adjust to which makes the versatility of the line-up unbeatable.
Passengers in the rear row will also be pleased to know that there is also air-conditioning for them in the form of roof-mounted air vents with their own dedicated slider control. Making the journey in our Singapore’s sweltering heat that much more bearable!
The seating configuration of the cars is also different from its 2-2-3 set-up compared to the traditional 2-3-3. The rear seats also fold away easily with a simple pull of a cache. No more fumbling about while at the pick-up point or climbing in fiddling with every lever you see! Even with the last row of seats down, the boot boasts a substantial amount of space to put your luggage or ‘barang barang’. Need even more space? Fold the seats up and push the middle row forward! It’s that easy.
Exterior
Differences
At first glance, the 3 sisters are difficult to differentiate save for some minor exterior differences with all 3 sporting a boxy, angular shape almost like a cross between an MPV and Minivan. The Noah, for example, can be identified with the ‘N’ badge on the front of the car, with a simpler and straightforward MPV design. The Voxy, on the other hand, can be differentiated by its sportier front with the split LED headlights compared to the one on the Noah. On the rear, we see the model name “Voxy” emblazoned in huge letters. And finally, the Esquire, the ‘deluxe’ variant of the line-up with its vertical front grills and large LED headlights giving it that sense of luxuriousness.
In terms of the interior, the Voxy and Noah are nearly identical while the difference lies in the Esquire. Decked out in brown laser lined decorations on the interior panel and synthetic leather, the Esquire screams luxury when you open the side door and lay eyes on it for the first time. The leather is used on the instrument panel, door trim, and seat upholstery giving it a cleaner and more polished look. Genuine leather and a black wood tone is also used on the steering wheel and shift knob for that added luxury feel.
Conclusion
The 3 sisters are very similar in terms of performance and usage but the main difference lies in the aesthetics and comfort. The Noah being the base model, the Voxy being the sportier-looking one and finally the Esquire for those seeking comfort and luxury but don’t want to shell out for an Alphard / Vellfire. All 3 cars are top in their class for comfort and utility whether is it going up to Malaysia for a road trip, dinner with the family or going grocery shopping but whatever the case is, you can’t go wrong with any one of them!
